It has to come to my notice history begins somewhere. As we can get the history of the hotel chain started in the early 1970`s. The first unit to open its doors to the public was Serena Beach Hotel in March 1973. Followed by Amboseli and Mara Serena in August.

Nairobi Serena hotel did not open  until November 1975. Samburu Serena was added to the family in 1985 first coming in only for management but later in 1989 the chain acquired majority share holding. In 1987 Nairobi Serena Hotel had a major face lift during which time Mandhari restaurant , New stretch swimming pool and Maisha fitness club were added as new features of the hotel making it truly a new hotel and the leader in the city.

In 1988 Serena Beach Hotel was expanded with 48 new luxury rooms and a new swimming pool. As at the present our bed capacity is 921 distributed as follows;

• Mombasa Serena Beach Hotel ; 166 rooms , 48 luxury rooms
• Amboseli Serena lodge ; 96 rooms
• Mara Serena Lodge ; 78 rooms
• Samburu Serena lodge ; 62 rooms
• Mountain lodge ; 42 rooms
• Kilanguni Serena ; 54 rooms
• Serena Mountain Village ; 42 rooms
• Lake Manyara Serena Safari lodge ; 67 rooms
• Ngorongoro Serena Safari lodge ; 75 rooms
• Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge ; 66 rooms
• Kirawira camp ; 25 rooms
• Zanzibar Serena Inn ; 51 rooms
