The “red elephants” of Tsavo East are especially unique—they appear red due to the red dust they spray on themselves for cooling and protection. Tsavo is also home to giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, hyenas, crocodiles, hippos, and more than 500 bird species.

Natural Features

• Tsavo East is known for its vast open plains, the Galana River, and scenic spots like Lugard Falls, a series of whitewater rapids and pools.
