Part 11

It was early morning, I heard a knock on the shop door. I used to sleep inside the shop to act as security for the business. I took my time before I could open the door, then I heard my in law voice. It was a surprise that he had brought the maize stock, cereals and fruits. The shop was now full with stocks .

Some sacks of maize we placed them in the room which was next to the shop. We spent 2 to 3 weeks together increasing the general merchant’s. The shop looked stable and organised.

Remember I had just completed the high school still I had to go to college for more studies. The business was running well and I had to employ a helper to maintain the operation well. Record keeping was the major problem I encountered later which is so vital in the business. The daily sales cash I used to give my mother in the evening for safe custody and when time permits I used to keep savings in post bank not all the sales cash but what seems to be profit after purchase so it was very little cash not more than kshs500.

Now I heard to be pay for the received stocks so that the in law can plough back the stocks. The amount of cash I was giving was what available and there was no records to show what remains. Now the in law took charge of the operation of Taveta purchasing assumed to be owner of the business. I took it positive but question was my contribution share of the business and daily operations duties who was to pay. I heard no salary, I only used to pay the helper monthly kshs,1200.

After a year of operation, I decided to travel to Nairobi to look for better college to continue with my studies. The helper became stable in the operations. So I had no worries about the daily running due I had proper connections with suppliers and most products were brought at doorstep.

At Nairobi I was to get my stop over at my first sister’s. She was married and used to stay with her family in Nairobi. Now I was to learn life of city . I travel well and picked at bus station at early morning by my sister maid called Angelina. I got a well welcome to the house and I brought my issue of been there but seemed landing from deaf ear. What I was told is to find out for myself the college and asked who was to finance the studies?
