I was employed as Manager incharge of procurement and transportation of all products and services of the company. I was dealing with Greenpower energy company. This company was for supply of solar for lights and solar water heaters. It had acquired tender for construction of new electricity line under the project of rural electrification for the government. We had to cover rural areas in isiolo and Marisabit.
The Kenya power and lighting company was supposed to issue the materials for construction of the lines so we were to procure them from there head office. It was my first time at that great position and I had never learnt on electric products so it was tough on counter checking the products during collection.
It was the first day to go for collection of the products, I had to arrange for transport where they requested for trailer with 40 ft container. Where to source this time of van I had no connections of any and only solution was to get a broker. I managed to get my old friend Mr. Maina , promised to sort out the means as quick as possible. Due it was agent I agreed for his offer with easy.
We proceeded to the loading area and all was well. The driver was very busy talking with mobile seems making arrangements which I suspected were negative so I become curious on him. The broker had gone so I was left with him.
Luckily all was loaded well by the company workers and we began our journey. We were to fuel so the director of the company suggested she will accompany us to the petrol station due we needed funds for upkeep during the journey also.
At the petrol station, I introduced the driver to the director and immediately the game changed. What do I mean , the director choose to deal with the driver directly to avoid the broker and me. When I realised that, I immediately withdrew myself from the journey and instructed on of the staff to join the driver due the allowance was slashed couldn’t match my job group.
I took separate means of transport going back home. Early in the morning I heard my phone ringing, picked the call, director,these is to let you know the driver had abandoned the trailer at Gilgil police station he cannot be traced. I got shocked 😲😲 then I little laughed 😂😂 😂 and I said God thank you for helping me making the correct decision.
