I was shocked why use the Tanzania currency while in my country Kenya. We were with Mr. Mutiso , he explained as follows, most of the suppliers come from Tanzania (wachanga)they usually transact using the Tanzania currency so that they avoid changes while going back. So they don’t need to incur cost of changing the cash after business.
There comes mathematics topic of currency. I thought of my maths teacher of Mwakingali primary Mr. Mwakalindo but no clue came went ahead to Mr. Ngua my high school teacher in Kenyatta then I remembered his words, maths is a daily activity you better learn it now and use it continuously in your daily activities.
Ask my self which country money has more value than the other. Note that no mobile phones that time , most calculations are done manually. Mr. Mutiso was quietly gazing at me as if he was reading my mind. In a clever way I concluded to him can we change some cash I have so that we can get on with the business due by noon I have to go back at Voi . He asked why do you need to go back so fast?
Remember I had closed the business to come for shopping so I expected to be back early and re open to avoid loosing sales and creating the good rapport with the daily customers.
We moved slowly towards on streets where cash was been changed, waaah no bureau or house just people standing on the streets holding cash . I was shocked by how the activity was carried out . I choose to change kshs 5,000 only so that I can get the mathematics. I was handed over an empty envelope then bundles of cash followed. Gosh gosh 🤣🤣🤣 I checked Mutiso and I quickly grabbed the bundles us if I knew the correct amount to receive.
I kept the cash in the envelope and we began to move towards the market. Mutiso narrated slowly, now the rate is good 👍 I smiled. First I was in need of cereal’s and fruits ( mangos, ovacando, banana). Knowing what your customers need more it helps in doing purchase and pricing should be most considered to avoid competition or losing customers. Quality of the products comes in and covers bigger part in pricing.
I did my purchase well and booked the bus back to Voi.
